Before he was born, Sky was given a 1% chance to live.
Shortly after Sky was born prematurely, doctors identified that he had a rare congenital heart defect called Ebstein anomaly. He wasn't big enough for heart surgery yet - the only option was to put him on the heart transplant list. Amazingly, his heart began getting stronger on its own.
Sky's parents believe the best medical care possible happens at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, so they transferred his care to our Fetal Cardiology Program.
“A huge part of Sky’s survival is that he had doctors who knew what to do, but the number one reason for his survival is his own fighting spirit," says Sky’s mother, Britt. "All of these brilliant minds figured out the puzzle that was Sky's heart."
