Meet the Children Whose Lives You've Changed
Born with auriculocondylar syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting her facial development, Arya was just a few weeks old when her family drove three-and-a-half hours to our NICU to receive expert care to help her breathe, eat, and grow. Arya’s journey with us included life-changing craniofacial surgery—and has been made possible by her medical team’s brilliant, compassionate, interdisciplinary care.
Today, thanks to generous supporters like you, Arya is embracing life fully—practicing tennis with her grandpa, modeling clothes for her mom's brand, hosting her Trolls-themed sixth birthday party, and enjoying her favorite food: mac 'n cheese. She is outgoing and loves making new friends.
When Arya grows up, she wants to be a tennis star, inspiring kids just like herself to keep dreaming of a brighter future.
At just 4 years old, Mikayla faced a life-changing diagnosis of restrictive cardiomyopathy, a rare heart condition that required her to undergo a heart transplant. Mikayla spent months in our hospital waiting for her new heart. Then the big day came, giving her a second chance at life.
Thanks to the hospital’s expertise and comprehensive support—from advanced medical care to emotional support through child life specialists—Mikayla is thriving, enjoying activities like riding her scooter and creating art. She continues to see the team for monitoring to ensure her new heart beats beautifully with minimal complications.
Mikayla’s entire family is grateful for the care they’ve received at Packard Children’s—and for donors like you who make extraordinary care and groundbreaking research possible.
Max’s journey at Packard Children's began with Type 1 diabetes. When he was diagnosed in 2021, his family relocated from Phoenix to Palo Alto so Max could receive top-notch care from the Packard Children's endocrinology team. Then, another surprise diagnosis of stage-3 Burkitt lymphoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, shifted their entire world again. Max’s time at Packard Children’s included intensive treatments, art and music therapy, and so much more. The innovative, compassionate care Max and his family received were all made possible by generous support from people like you.
Today, Max is in eighth grade, playing video games, learning French, and spending weekends on the pickleball court. Through it all, he’s focused on giving back: Max's friends and family, Team Mighty Max, raised over $13,700 for this year’s Summer Scamper event to help other kids and families at Packard Children's.
For Max, each day is an opportunity to chase his dreams and a bright future. Your gift can go twice as far thanks to a generous match from the McMurtry Family Foundation, and makes all the difference for patients just beginning their journey.
