Jayce had his first open-heart surgery at just 2 days old.
When Jayce’s mom, Elani, learned her baby was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a rare congenital heart defect, she came to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford for hope. The left side of Jayce’s heart was not developing properly, and he would need open-heart surgery at just 2 days old.
Jayce spent the first six months of his life in the hospital, where our medical experts provided him with extraordinary care. Through that critical time, Elani was able to stay with Jayce, thanks to donor-funded programs that provide comprehensive support for families, like help with meals, transportation, and mental health care during their toughest moments.
Jayce will need another heart surgery as he grows, but Elani feels comfort in knowing that her family will have the hospital’s expert care and compassionate support.
